The President began his day with his usual national security and intelligence briefings by senior staff members. He also met with the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, and his Press Secretary. Later in the morning, President Bush met in the Oval Office with David F. Demarest, Assistant for Communications, and Brent Scowcroft, among others. He lunched with Cabinet Secretaries Jack Kemp and Louis Sullivan. In the afternoon, he spoke with German Chancellor Helmut Kohl by telephone and met with representatives of Baltic-American groups. Later in the afternoon, he had his regular briefing and discussion of Operation Desert Storm with senior staff members.
